JOHOR BARU: A snatch thief trying to escape on a motorcycle ended up breaking his ankle following a chase by the victim.
The theft victim was having breakfast with her husband at a café in Taman Mount Austin here on Wednesday morning when a man snatched her handbag containing RM7,000.
Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Yaacob said that the 22-year-old man ran to an accomplice who was waiting on a motorcycle nearby.
He said the victim and her husband gave chase in their car until they reached Jalan Mutiara Emas 5/15 where the motorcycle hit a pavement.
ACP Zainuddin said that a passer-by then rushed over and pinned down the snatch thief, who could not put up a struggle as he had broken his ankle.
“The man was brought to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for treatment and was under remand.
