Who says crime pays?: The snatch theft suspect is seen sitting on the road clutching his knees with blood dripping from a broken ankle after he fell from a motorcycle in Johor Baru.

JOHOR BARU: A snatch thief trying to escape on a motorcycle ended up breaking his ankle following a chase by the victim.

The theft victim was having breakfast with her husband at a café in Taman Mount Austin here on Wednesday morning when a man snatched her handbag containing RM7,000.

Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Yaacob said that the 22-year-old man ran to an accomplice who was waiting on a motorcycle nearby.

He said the victim and her husband gave chase in their car until they reached Jalan Mutiara Emas 5/15 where the motorcycle hit a pavement.

ACP Zainuddin said that a passer-by then rushed over and pinned down the snatch thief, who could not put up a struggle as he had broken his ankle.

“The man was brought to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for treatment and was under remand.
