ALOR SETAR: The Kedah Government will promote the Kedah Darul Aman Cycling Package as its latest tourism product to attract more visitors to the state.

The packages are Sedim Back To Nature in Kulim, Merbok Heritage Trail in Merbok, Sungai Petani, Alor Setar Saturday Nite Ride and Alor Setar Heritage Trail.

Six other packages offered are in Langkawi, namely the Kampung Fun Ride, Discover The Unknown Tuba Island, Nature Cycling Trip, Langkawi Mount Biking and two Langkawi Cross Country Ride packages.

Religion, Indian and Siamese Community Affairs, Human Resources and Tourism Committee chairman Mohd Rawi Abd Hamid said the cycling tourism packages involved urban and rural areas, fields and nature trails.

Under the package created in cooperation with Tourism Malaysia and travel agencies, tourists can cycle their way to interesting locations in Kedah.

“This is our way of encouraging tourism by offering cycling packages to see all the places in Kedah.

“We’ve carried out the Saturday Nite Ride here which was well received, getting over 1,000 participants. These packages began a month ago and will be launched soon,” he told a press conference.

Mohd Rawi said Tourism Malaysia Kedah would organise the Royal Kedah Bicycle Festival from Nov 27 to 29 next year.

“This programme will also gather cycling enthusiasts. We hope more than 3,000 participants will join and the programme will be held in Pedu, Gunung Keriang (here) and Alor Setar based on the interest of tourists.

“Cyclists can choose to ride within the city, by the beach and hills or something more towards extreme sports.

“We will include all of these in the programme next year,” he added. — Bernama
