NGO wants cops to act now

KUALA LUMPUR Non-governmental organisation Nadi Rakyat Malaysia yesterday urged authorities to crack down on those who ignite racial tension through their postings on social and print media.

Its president, Mohd Rafi Awang Kechik, said it was only fair for the police to start investigating people who write, post and share racist articles following the arrest of two bloggers on Monday.

Rafi, who arrived at the Sentul police headquarters about 3.15pm, also voiced his frustration against the authorities for only taking action after the issue has been blown out of proportion.

"I think it is unfair that the bloggers were hauled up only after police reports were lodged against them.

"What about Bersih co-chairman Datuk S. Ambiga? Thousands of reports were lodged, but no action has been taken against her and her supporters," he said.
