FULL SUPPORT: Pak Lah says PM has right strategies in place

KUALA LUMPUR: PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is still the best person to continue leading the country, his predecessor said yesterday.

Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said even though the results of the general election on Sunday were not as good as the previous elections, he would give Najib his full support.

He hoped Najib would continue his agenda for transformation. "Malaysians have sent a clear message that they want change and Najib must respond to this by intensifying his transformation programme to address issues such as corruption, crime and the cost of living.

"I believe that he has the right strategies in place to demonstrate improvement in these areas," he said in a statement.

Abdullah said racial sentiments should not be played and called for national unity and reconciliation in the country.

He said there must not be any attempt to racialise the election results by blaming any particular community. "This is unfair and unhelpful."

He also called upon the opposition to accept and respect the election results as Malaysians deserve stability and certainty.

"Let us move on in the interests of all Malaysians."

Abdullah's statement comes in the wake of increased racial tension following calls from several quarters to act against the Chinese community for "being ungrateful".
