MALACCA: A team of officers on a drug raid found
22,000 litres of subsidised diesel at a store house in Taman Teknologi
Cheng here.
The diesel, kept in 22 barrels, was believed to have been smuggled to Johor for factories and shipping companies.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Salehhudin Abd Rahman said that his team of officers also found 14 other empty barrels and five lorries that were believed to be used to transport the diesel. A 21-year-old driver had been detained after he was tested positive for drugs.
Malacca Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Department director Muhabir Ibrahim said that the diesel was estimated to be worth RM40,000 in the market.
“All the lorries were modified and could accommodate more than 5,000 litres, depending on the size of the lorry and the tank.
“We believe that the subsidised diesel was bought from petrol kiosks nearby, especially those operating round-the-clock,” he said.
