But it is believed that the victim was a 47-year-old from Nibong Tebal.
Investigations were now focused on his background.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Kesah said the victim was having supper with three friends when he was shot at close range by a gunman wearing a full-face helmet.
"The suspect fired two shots with a revolver and sped off on a motorcycle,"
The victim was also a Barisan Nasional supporter who had campaigned for the coalition during the general election.

She said it was a big shock to her when she was alerted to the shooting.
"I went to the Sungai Bakap hospital where he was sent for treatment. I still cannot believe something so terrible and cruel like this can happen. It is very sad."
She said the victim, who was a former DAP supporter, had helped her canvass for votes in her campaign in Jawi and was a very strong campaigner.
Tan said he had told her that he left the DAP because of his disappointment with the party, which "talked more than delivered", but she would not say if the incident had to do with politics or the general election.
She stressed that it was best to leave it the police to investigate and find out who did it.
"I do not want to speculate. The victim never mentioned any untoward incidents during the campaign or reported any clashes with supporters from the other party.
"If anything needs to be done now, it is to assist the victim's family."
Tan added that the victim was also a volunteer patrol unit captain and after he left the unit, he formed his own independent patrol unit which has 400 members.
