Zaidon and family involved in accident, wife killed

LEDANG: The wife of the Youth and Sports Ministry's deputy secretary general (strategic), Datuk Zaidon Asmuni, was killed when the car he and his family were travelling in was involved in an accident at Km157.9 of the North-South Expressway, near here, on Saturday night.

In the 11.40pm accident, Datin Halimah Awaludin, 55, was killed at the scene while Zaidon was injured. The couple's two children, who were travelling with them, and a driver were also injured.
It is understood that at the time of the accident, Zaidon and his family were on their way from Putrajaya to Batu Pahat.
Ledang police chief Superintendent Harun Idris said the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the car and collided with a trailer lorry, before hitting the road divider.
"Halimah died at the scene as a result of head and body injuries," Harun said.
"The rest of the family members and the driver suffered injuries. The lorry driver escaped unhurt."
He said the victim's body was sent to Tangkak Hospital for a post-mortem while Zaidon, his children and the driver were sent to Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital for treatment.
