JOHOR BARU: A 43-year-old man was shot in the shoulder by an assailant as he was walking back to his car in a hotel parking lot in Jalan Dato Sulaiman here after meeting a friend.
A hotel worker said he ran to the parking lot upon hearing four shots at about 3.30pm yesterday.
“Immediately after the shooting, I saw a man running towards a motorcyclist waiting along the main road. The victim managed to run despite being shot,” he said here yesterday.
“I tried to help him,” he said, adding that no one else was in the parking lot.
He added that the police arrived within minutes and the injured man, who was shot twice in the right shoulder, was rushed to Hospital Sultanah Aminah, where his condition was later reported to be stable.
Confirming the incident, Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Dr Hashim Haron said the victim was believed to be returning to the car park after meeting a friend in the area.
“The assailant and his accomplice were on a motorcycle outside the hotel. The assailant walked towards the victim and fired at him. It is too early to establish the motive of the incident,” said Hashim.
